It discusses our implementation plan, some best practices, assessment, and marketing. Your library might, too.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Proactive Twitter reference:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\">http:\/\/search.twitter.com<\/a> &#8211; Advanced Search, exportable as RSS feed<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/reader.google.com\">http:\/\/reader.google.com<\/a> &#8211; free RSS reader<\/li>\n<li>(I got the idea <a href=\"http:\/\/andyburkhardt.com\/2010\/02\/12\/ambient-awareness-in-twitter-for-reference\/\">from Information Tyrannosaur<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Borrow things from other libraries. Seriously. Locally, we have looked at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/pages\/Juneau-AK\/UAS-Egan-Library\/16021745060\">UAS Egan Library<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/uaflibrary\">UAF Rasmuson Library<\/a> for ideas, and sometimes we retweet\/reshare things from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/anchlibrary\">APL&#8217;s Twitter feed<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/anchoragelibrary\">Facebook Page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Pay attention to what your friends\/followers notice. People love our book spine haikus. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/UNMlibraries\">UNM Libraries<\/a> used to do &#8220;Trivia Tuesdays,&#8221; which worked for them, but nobody participated when we tried it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Keeping up to date<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intranet (for helping us all keep each other in the loop on projects, technology):\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/openatrium.com\/\">http:\/\/openatrium.com\/<\/a> &#8211; open source Drupal-based intranet<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/\">http:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/<\/a> &#8211; $5\/month for private wiki<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\">http:\/\/www.blogger.com<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wordpress.com\">http:\/\/www.wordpress.com<\/a> &#8211; free for private blog<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Twenty Minute Trainings\/&#8221;Brown Bags&#8221; &#8211; Staff members take turns presenting topics; at the CL we tend to hold them after the weekly Reference meeting, but during my previous life as a consultant, we had lunchtime meetings where everyone (except the presenter :)) would bring lunch and eat it while being trained on something. <a href=\"http:\/\/librarianinblack.typepad.com\/librarianinblack\/2009\/03\/cil2009-best-of-the-web.html\">This list<\/a> has been good for ideas. Some recent trainings: DropBox, persistent URLs in the catalog, how to use our BookEye scanner. Coming up: Movie Maker and Facebook privacy.<\/li>\n<li>My tools:\n<ul>\n<li>Twitter (I like browsing people&#8217;s &#8220;librarian&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2009\/11\/02\/twitter-lists-guide\/\">lists<\/a>, and I follow a bunch of librarians with both my personal and <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/web_librarian\">professional<\/a> accounts.)<\/li>\n<li>Google Reader &#8211; I follow a bunch of library and tech blogs, some feeds related to my hobbies, some comics and humor blogs, and, of course, the Twitter search I built to do proactive reference. In addition, Reader&#8217;s social features help bring me news from my geeky, librarian, and library-geeky friends, which is invaluable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;d recommend Reader for a library staff to communicate amongst themselves, too. If a bunch of librarians get accounts and follow blogs in their areas of interest\/expertise, they can share posts of interest to the larger group, and people can comment back and forth. I&#8217;d love to set up something like this at the CL, but haven&#8217;t really brought it up as a possibility yet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>New (and old) projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>QR Codes &#8211; maybe a video tour, or pointers to information about a given area of the library<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/qrcode.kaywa.com\/img.php?s=6&amp;d=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.consortiumlibrary.org\" alt=\"qrcode\" \/><\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.consortiumlibrary.org\/geocaching\">geocache<\/a> hidden in the library? The link goes to my LibGuide about what geocaching is and how to do it. Speaking of which&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>LibGuides, or as we call them at the CL, <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.consortiumlibrary.org\">Research Guides<\/a> &#8211; Great for making &#8220;how to&#8221; pages about using library resources, easy for techy and non-techy librarians alike<\/li>\n<li>IM Reference &#8211; We use <a href=\"http:\/\/libraryh3lp.com\/\">LibraryH3lp<\/a>, staffed by the librarians at the desk. I also worked in another library that used Meebo (which is free), staffed from librarians&#8217; offices in 1-2 hour blocks. There are still some unresolved issues with our implementation\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand that other library&#8217;s.
