I usually end up skipping out on a few of the sessions I plan to attend, because I overschedule and get burned out. But there&#8217;s a lot of good stuff this year (most of it at the same time, *grumble*), so my Exhibit Hall time may be severely curtailed from the year before last&#8230; (I haven&#8217;t looked at the list of authors, but gosh darn it, I want to meet Neil Gaiman if he&#8217;s there. I&#8217;ll wait in line and miss sessions if I have to. Except the one I paid for. And SummonCamp, which I promised my department head I&#8217;d attend, if he doesn&#8217;t. And the NMRT Board Meeting, because, you know, it&#8217;s my first one, and that makes me feel all awesome and not like a &#8220;baby librarian&#8221; [MPOW inside joke, there].) <\/p>\n<p><strong>6\/21<\/strong><br \/>\nArrive in NO early in the morning. Crash at hotel through the hot part of the day.<br \/>\n<strong>6\/22-6\/23<\/strong><br \/>\nExplore (Let me know if you&#8217;re in town early and want to get together! I want to do voodoo tours and explore the French Quarter. And eat beignets, whatever those are [nah, it&#8217;s cool, I have Google and a rough idea]. And get gumbo. And get an alcoholic slushy to carry down the street with me&#8211;ideally with friends, because alcoholic slushies are definitely better with company. I also hear there&#8217;s an aquarium and would be up for that.)<br \/>\n<strong>6\/24<\/strong><br \/>\n9am-4:30pm: User Experience Design for Websites (preconference)<br \/>\n4pm-5:15pm: Opening Session w\/ Dan Savage(!!!)<br \/>\n5:30-8pm: LITA Happy Hour<br \/>\n7:30-10pm: ALAplay 2011 (although I hear there&#8217;s a dance party somewhere?)<br \/>\n<strong>6\/25<\/strong><br \/>\n8-10am: Behavioral Issues in the Library: How Do We Respond?<br \/>\n10:30-noon: NMRT Executive Board Meeting (and if it ends early, I&#8217;ll pop into &#8220;The Discovery Payoff: Are discovery services increasing ROI and the library&#8217;s prominence in academic institutions&#8221; or &#8220;One Person Can Make a Difference: Tips and Techniques for the Lone Change Agent&#8221; or &#8220;MBA for Librarians Series \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Leadership I&#8221;)<br \/>\n<strong>noon: Someone should meet me for lunch!<\/strong><br \/>\n1:30-3:30pm: either &#8220;You Mean Libraries Will Be Able To Deliver Electronic Content Better Than iTunes and Netflix?&#8221; or &#8220;Download This! How One Library Embraced Its Downloadable Future&#8221;<br \/>\n3:30-4:30pm: go see Siva Vaidhyanathan, then leave early :\/<br \/>\n4:00-5:30pm: New Leaders Discussion Group (LLAMA \/ NMRT); if that&#8217;s standing room only, I&#8217;ll do &#8220;Working Towards Transliteracy&#8221;<br \/>\n6-7:30pm: (maybe) Now Showing @ ALA: The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Paper (Film) &#8230; or maybe dinner<br \/>\n7-9pm: Newbie (and Veteran) Tweetup<br \/>\n9pm-??: ALA Facebook After Hours Social, assuming that&#8217;s open-invite<br \/>\n<strong>6\/26<\/strong><br \/>\n8-11am: SummonCamp (though I may have to leave early)<br \/>\n10:30-noon: &#8220;Context, Content, and Contraptions&#8221; or &#8220;It&#8217;s All About Them: Developing Information Services with User Experience Design&#8221;<br \/>\n12-1pm: Volunteering at the Resume Review Booth (as a greeter, not a resume reviewer)<br \/>\n1:30-3:30pm: NMRT Membership Meeting<br \/>\n3:30-5:30pm: ALA President&#8217;s Program featuring Sue Gardner<br \/>\n5:30-7:30pm: Pitt iSchool Alumni Reception (if anyone I know is going, at least)<br \/>\n7:30-10pm: Joint Merritt Fund \/ NMRT Awards Reception<br \/>\n(And I&#8217;m hoping there&#8217;s a fun vendor party that night?)<br \/>\n<strong>6\/27<\/strong><br \/>\n8-10am: either &#8220;Coffee and Conversation with Experts&#8221; or &#8220;Emerging Technologies Interest Group&#8221;<br \/>\n10:30-noon: maybe the Exhibit Hall, honestly; my schedule says &#8220;MBA for Librarians Series \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Leadership II&#8221; or &#8220;The BIGWIG Showcase,&#8221; but as I type this, neither compels me<br \/>\n11:30-12:30: Jeff Jarvis (hmm)<br \/>\n1:30-3:30pm: Using Virtual Focus Groups in Distance Learning &#038; Online Environments<br \/>\n3:30: late lunch?<br \/>\n5:30-7pm: Battledecks 2011<br \/>\n<strong>after: socialize? <\/strong>sleep?<br \/>\n<strong>6\/28<\/strong><br \/>\n8-10am: Professional Socialization and Trendspotting<br \/>\n9-10am: Closing General Session featuring Molly Shannon<br \/>\nnoon: hie myself hither towards the airport<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s an overview of where I think I&#8217;ll be over the course of ALA week.
